BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE FOR 10/21/18

TAMPA RED ACCOMPANIES

This week on BBS we’ll listen to sides by Tampa Red. Tampa recorded 350 sides under his own name during a career which stretched from 1928 to 1953. But he also made many more sides in an accompanying role. Tampa made his first record for Paramount in May 1928 and was a guitar player scufflin’ for work. Then he hit with his seminal record It’s Tight Like That in October 1928. For the next two years he had all the studio work he could handle – making his own records and accompanying a list of artists from Ma Rainey to Lovin’ Sam (Theard) From Alabam. We’ll spend Hour #3 sampling sides in his role as an accompanying player. Join us – Only on BBS!
