& THREE GREAT WOMEN BLUES SINGERS!

This week on BBS more features than you can shake a stick at (Well three anywayS). First we’ll spend Hour #2 as our Moonlit Hour – all the tunes have the word Moon in the title. And then during Hour #3 we’ll listen to the earliest recording by husband and wife team Butterbeans & Susie. And finally during Hour #4 we spin sides by three different Blues women – Betty Everett, LaVelle White and Carol Fran. All three started as Blues singers and evolved into R&B and then Soul singers. We’ll play the early Blues sides by each of the three. And don’t forget next week it’s the annual BBS Halloween Extravaganza!

BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE FOR 10/15/17
SPOTLIGHT ON CLARENCE M. JONES

This week on BBS we’ll turn the spotlight on Clarence M. Jones an accomplished Jazz and Blues pianist. Clarence established himself in Chicago starting in 1910 with extended stays at the Owl and Avenue Theaters in Chicago, later moving to the Moulin Rouge Café  and Grand Theater. During the 1920she made records under his own name and accompanied Classic Blues Singers Monette Moore and Laura Smith. During the 1930s he organized and accompanied the Southernaires, a harmony group popular on both record and live radio broadcasts. We’ll spend Hour #3 listening to records which feature Clarence. Join us as we remember the who/what/when that everybody else has forgotten – Only on BBS!
